What does the programme cover?

This program offers learners a pathway to enter into the Automotive Industry. Learners are taught both theoretical and practical skills preparing them to progress to the New Zealand Certificate in Automotive Engineering Level 3 or an entry role in the Automotive industry.

Graduates will be able to apply basic automotive skills covering:

  • Health and Safety
  • Preventive Maintenance
  • Workshop
  • Engineering
  • Fuel Systems and Exhaust
  • Engines
  • Bodywork
  • Literacy and numeracy skills relevant to working in the Automotive industry are embedded across the programme.

Who can Enrol

This is a youth qualification designed for all learners aged 16 – 24 (15 with an exemption) who do not already hold a qualification at level 2 or above.

When can I Enrol?

This programme runs for 30 weeks, which includes a two week holiday break. You can enrol at any time throughout the year.

Timetable

Course runs Monday - Friday 8.00am -3.00pm.
With Fridays reserved for work experience.

  • Credits achieved in this pathway also leads towards the achievement of the Manufacturing and Technology Vocational Pathway (Level 2) and may also lead to the award of NCEA Level 2.

What does the programme cover?

This programme prepares students for an automotive apprenticeship or an entry level role in the automotive industry. It teaches basic automotive servicing and repair skills, combining theory with practical activities.

Graduates will be able to:

  • Follow workplace policies, procedures and relevant regulations to work safely and effectively in an automotive workshop.
  • Use tools and equipment to complete basic workshop engineering tasks.
  • Apply fundamental automotive engineering knowledge to service vehicle systems.
  • Check operation of, and perform minor repairs on, electrical and electronic systems.
